The Minister for Education and Skills, Joe McHugh TD, today (Sunday March 17th) attended the Greening of the Great Wall ceremony in Beijing as part of his trip to China for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Irish musicians and dancers formed part of the ceremony at the Great Wall, which is one of a number of landmarks around the world which will turn green for the festivities.
The Greening ceremony is part of Tourism Ireland's Global Greening initiative which is now celebrating ten years of lighting up iconic statues and buildings.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister McHugh said:
“I am delighted to be here today to witness such an historic landmark form part of the St Patrick’s Day celebrations."
“The Global Greening initiative has grown to become a significant worldwide reminder of both St Patrick's Day itself and also of Ireland and its appeal as a visitor destination."
“I would like to thank Tourism Ireland for co-ordinating these events across the globe. The Global Greening initiative has become an integral part in celebrating our national day."
