02 Márta, 2007 - Cead Tugtha ag an Aire Hanafin dul ar aghaidh le hOscailt Ghaelcholáiste Bhun Cranncha ó Mheán Fómhair 2007

D'fhógair an tAire Oideachais agus Eolaíochta, Mary Hanafin, T.D. inniu go bhfuiltear chun Gaelcholáiste nua a bhunú i mBun Cranncha, chun freastal ar dhaltaí a dteastaíonn uathu oideachas dara leibhéal a fháil trí mheán na Gaeilge.

Is éard a bheidh sa Ghaelcholáiste nua ná gairmscoil chomhoideachasúil faoi choimirce CGO Chontae Dhún na nGall.

Táthar ag súil go mbeidh an scoil nua seo ag glacadh le daltaí ó Mheán Fómhair 2007, agus go mbeidh sí ag fónamh do tuairim is 30 daltaí céad bliana.  Tá dhá Ghaelscoil friotháileacha sa cheantar cheana féin.

Ag fógairt na nua-Ghaelcholáiste di dúirt an tAire Mary Hanafin "tá bunú Gaelscoile nua iarbhunoideachais i mBun Cranncha ina thoradh nádúrtha ar fhás traidisiún na Gaelscolaíochta atá chomh láidir sin i nDún na nGall le blianta beaga anuas.  Beidh an Ghaelscoil nua seo ina cuid den luí láidir i dtreo grá don Ghaeilge a spreagadh in ár scoileanna.

Beidh cead rollaithe sa Ghaelcholáiste ní hamháin ag páistí a d'fhreastail ar Ghaelscoileanna ag leibhéal na bunscoile ach do na daltaí sin go léir a bhfuil fonn orthu leanúint dá gcuid oideachais iarbhunscoile trí mheán na Gaeilge."

Tá 23 Ghaelcholáiste ag obair ar fud na tíre i láthair na huaire.  Fógraíodh le déanaí go mbeadh trí Ghaelcholáiste eile, i gContaethe Phort Láirge, Loch gCarman agus Chill Mhantáin ag tosnú le haitheantas sealadach ó 1ú Mheán Fómhair 2007.

Minister Hanafin gives go-ahead for Buncrana Gaelcholáiste to open from September 2007

The Minister for Education and Science Mary Hanafin T.D. today announced that a new Gaelcholáiste is to be established in Buncrana, to serve pupils who want to have second level education through the medium of Irish.

The new Gaelcholáiste will be a co-educational vocational school under the auspices of County Donegal VEC.

This new school is planning to be open to pupils from September 2007, and is expected to cater for in the region of 30 first year pupils.   There are already two feeder Gaelscoileanna in the area.

Announcing the new Gaelcholáiste Minister Hanafin said "the establishment of a new all-Irish post primary school in Buncrana is a natural consequence of the development of the tradition of education through the medium of Irish that has been a feature throughout Donegal in recent years. This new Gaelcholáiste will become part of the growing trend to encourage a grá don ghaeilge in our schools.

Enrolment in the Gaelcholáiste will be open not only to children who attended all-Irish primary schools but all pupils who have an interest in pursuing their post primary education through the medium of Irish."   

There are currently 23 Gaelcholaiste operating throughout the country. A further three Gaelcholaiste, in counties Waterford, Wexford & Wicklow were recently announced to commence with provisional recognition from 1st September, 2007.
