ga - 27 February, 2007 - €168,000 refurbishment to Home Economics Room in Loreto College, Crumlin opened by Minister Hanafin

The Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin T.D., today  opened the newly refurbished Home Economics Room in Loreto College, Crumlin. The works which were funded under the Summer Works Scheme last year by the Department of Education and Science cost €168,000. Loreto Crumlin currently caters for over 500 students.

Speaking to parents, teachers and students in Loreto College today, Minister Hanafin said "these fine new facilities are a vote of confidence in the students here in Loreto College and will build on the well established tradition of quality education that is the hall mark of this school. This is also reflected in the broad range of extra curricular activities that are provided here and also by the wonderful success that the students have recently achieved at national level,in drama, debating, singing as well as in the sporting arena. I am also aware that an art student from this school has been successful in designing a commemorative Europe stamp for An Post.

While these achievements are a tribute to the dedication and commitment of your teachers and families, it is important to always remember that taking part is what is most important. Being part of a team, helping each other out and supporting each other is what true participation and community is all about."

Minister Hanafin went on to say "the mission statement of Loreto College which aims to enhance the self-esteem of everyone in the school, to encourage respect for people and for property and to develop a sense of individual responsibility is one that benefits everyone, both here in the school and in the wider community. I hope that you will take it with you as your lives develop.  In doing so, not only will you improve the quality of your own lives and those around you, you will carry on the traditions and values of Loreto College and the Crumlin community in a way that represents the close ties and co-operation that have always been part of life here."

Minister Hanafin congratulated the principal, vice-principal, teachers and staff as well as students and parents and wished them continued success.
