Curriculum and Assessment Policy Unit (CAP)

Who we are

The Curriculum and Assessment Policy Unit (CAP) is responsible for the support of the development of overall policy relating to assessment, curricula and guidance.

What we do

• Support the development of overall policy relating to assessment, curricula and guidance
• Provide syllabuses, guidelines for teachers, circulars to schools and prescribed material for the examinations
• Provide financial and other supports to bodies such as The Educational Research Centre (ERC), State Examinations Commission (SEC)*, National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA)*, National Council for Guidance in Education (NCGE)*, An Chomhairle um Oideachais Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta (COGG)*  and Post Primary Languages Initiative (PPLI)
• Provide funding for standardised testing
• Support the implementation of the literacy and numeracy strategy

 *Bodies that come under the aegis of the Department of Education and Skills
