Who we are
Léargas is a not-for-profit organisation (CHY 8317), wholly owned by the Department of Education and Skills; its Board is appointed by the Minister.
What we do
As the National Agency for the Erasmus + Programme, Léargas is responsible for the disbursement of decentralised funds provided by the European Commission through management of an annual programme cycle. This involves promotion of the opportunities provided by the programme and active support to enable interested organisations to apply for financial support for their project proposals, particularly those involving people from less advantaged communities.
As well as the Erasmus+ programme, Léargas has run a range of nationally funded programmes such as the Education Equality Initiative and WorldWise, as well as joint Ireland-Britain programmes such as NcompasS and Causeway. Léargas is also currently involved, on the invitation of the Department of Education and Skills, in a joint bid with the Education Authority of Northern Ireland to administer the Shared Education element of Peace IV.
