What is the closing date for the October Returns?
The closing date for receipt in the Department of fully completed and signed October Returns is 07 October. Should this date fall on a weekend, the closing date is the next Monday immediately after 07 October.
Can a pupil repeat an academic school year?
Under departmental Circular M2/95 the principal is authorised to allow a pupil to repeat the year if they meet the criteria as set out in the circular. Except in very exceptional circumstances, a pupil will not be allowed to repeat more than one year in the post-primary cycle, prior to first sitting the Leaving Certificate Examination. Should such an exceptional case arise, the school should submit an application for an exemption to repeat more than one year together with all supporting documentation to Schools Financial and Database Section, Department of Education and skills, Cornamaddy, Athlone, County Westmeath, N37 X659.

Is there a minimum enrolment age?
The minimum age is set out in the Rules & Programmes 2004/2005. A recognised pupil must be 12 before the 01 of January of the school year (e.g. for the 2017/18 school year the pupil must have reached 12 years of age before 01/01/2018). In exceptional circumstances sanction may be given to enrol underage pupils. Requests should be made if possible before the end of May before the child is to start in post-primary school by the school to Schools Financial and Database Section, Department of Education and Skills, Cornamaddy, Athlone, County Westmeath N37 X659.
What is the repeat Leaving Certificate course fee?
For 2016/17 the fee is €126.97 and is payable where the student is not covered by a medical card. This fee is payable to the Department.
