09 September, 2015 - Minister O’Sullivan congratulates students who receive their Junior Certificate results today
The Minister for Education & Skills, Jan O’Sullivan T.D. congratulated the 59,522 students who will receive their Junior Certificate results today.
The results will be available in schools today and available on-line from 4pm on www.examinations.ie
“I want to congratulate all those who are receiving their Junior Certificate exams results today. I hope that your results reflect the hard work you have put into your studies and give you a solid foundation to continue your studies in the coming years,” said Minister O’Sullivan.
She added, “I would like to acknowledge the work of the teachers in preparing their students over the three year cycle and also acknowledge the key role that parents and the wider family play in supporting the students.”
The Minister stated that she very much welcomed the continual rise in the number of students sitting the optional oral Irish exam. The numbers taking the optional Irish has risen from 339 in 2007 to 16,529 this year. Also, the numbers sitting the optional oral in other languages, such as Spanish and Italian have also risen which is to be welcomed.
Students who wish to appeal their results can do so through their school no later than Friday 25th of September.
Minister O’Sullivan hopes that the students are already embracing the next stage of their studies as they look ahead to the senior cycle and the subjects they will pursue towards the Leaving Certificate. New options will be available to them such as the opportunities offered by a range of new apprenticeships coming on stream in 2016. These apprenticeships offer an alternative career pathway in developing areas of the economy.
The Minister also reminded students of the reforms designed to better support students transitioning from second level to higher education, including a new grading scheme for the Leaving Certificate which will be in place from 2017 in time for this cohort of students as they prepare to progress from post primary into third level.
The Minister concluded by encouraging students to enjoy their celebrations and to take care of each other.
