27 May, 2015 - Additional funding allocated to Primary Schools operating Book Rental Schemes

Money has already been lodged into schools’ bank accounts

The Department of Education and Skills recently notified primary schools of additional funding being provided to operate book rental schemes.

The funding is being made available to those schools which were operating the schemes prior to 2014. They will receive an additional €7 per pupil (€8 in DEIS schools) in May 2015 and €11 per pupil (€12 in DEIS schools) in April 2016 to support their schemes.

Prior to this, schools received funding of €11 per pupil (€21 in DEIS schools).

This will result in a total investment targeted specifically at primary school book rental/loan schemes of €15.6m. It is in addition to the €7.3m provided annually to primary schools by way of book grants.

The money for this year’s grants has been lodged into schools’ bank accounts.

This new funding means that every primary school across the country has now been given the opportunity to benefit from the School Book Rental Scheme.
