03 March, 2015 - Minister O’Sullivan Welcomes Launch of New Junior Cycle for Teachers website

The Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O’Sullivan TD, welcomed the launch of jct.ie, the new online face of the Junior Cycle for Teachers (JCT) support service.

The website supports the development of educators’ knowledge and skills for the “Framework for Junior Cycle”. Itenables them to continuously develop their range of teaching tools and practices, for the benefit of students.

Blended with the face-to-face support offered by the JCT, the website allows knowledge and practices to be shared and critiqued.

Specific online features include:

  • Tools and resources for classroom and whole-school planning
  • Exemplars of teaching practice
  • Links to tools and presentations
  • Access to register for courses and JCT newsletters
  • Schedules of JCT programme delivery and twitter feeds

Minister O’Sullivan said: “This new website is a timely resource, as it acknowledges the shifting role of ICT in education. It brings together a wealth of teaching resources, which will be easily accessible to schools all across the country.

“I know that the JCT also plans to introduce a wider range of e-learning initiatives via the site, so I see this very much as the start of an exciting, and evolving, valuable resource for teachers.”

The various sections of the website bring into focus the comprehensive range of supports that the JCT service offers teachers and school leaders. This includes whole school support, subject-specific continuing professional development (CPD), and support for specific initiatives, while also incorporating the role of school leaders in curriculum change. With the timeframe for the roll-out of the “Framework for Junior Cycle”, initial resources focus mainly on English and Whole-school CPD.

The website can be accessed from all sizes and types of electronic devices.
