21 November, 2013 - Minister Quinn opens school extension at Knockskeagh NS, Clonakilty
The Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn T.D., today officially opened three new classrooms at Knockskeagh National School, Clonakilty, Co. Cork,
Knockskeagh NS was provided with a grant of €300,000 as part of the 2012 Prefab Replacement Scheme to replace prefabs with permanent classrooms. Additional funding of €48,000 was also sanctioned for the provision of a lay-by and onsite parking at the school.
There are 109 students enrolled at the school with seven teachers and three SNAs on staff.
The building project consisted of the removal of prefabs and the construction of three mainstream classrooms. The refurbishment to the existing building included converting two existing small classrooms to provide one further classroom in the project.
Speaking at the school, the Minister said: "I’m delighted to be here to open this new extension to the school building, which is a great addition to the facilities already available here”.
The Minister thanked everyone who worked so hard to complete the project and wished them every success for the future.
"I know that the school enjoys a very active parent community and Parents’ Council, who support the principal and staff very well in their work, so very well done to you all," he said.
