The Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn T.D., together with Áine Lynch, CEO of the National Parents Council Primary, is inviting parents of primary school pupils to attend an information session on the new Junior Cycle.
The meeting will be held in the South Court Hotel, Raheen, on 6th June, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
Minister Quinn encouraged parents to attend the evening to learn how the changes will impact on their children’s education.
He said: “We are reforming the Junior Cycle to better reflect the skills and knowledge that students need nowadays. I understand that there may be some concerns about how this will impact on pupils currently in primary school and so I would encourage all parents to attend these free sessions, to see how their children will benefit from the changes and to get answers to any questions they have.”
Áine Lynch said that “it is children who are now in 5th class and below who will be the first to experience the new Junior Cycle. It’s important that their parents are informed about the new programme.”
The Department of Education and Skills has already rolled out information sessions for principals and deputy-principals. A comprehensive programme of continuing professional development for principals and teachers will be rolled out from this autumn.
