03 December, 2013 - Scoilnet Maps wins an Eircom Spider Award for Digital Geography
Scoilnet Maps, a Department of Education and Skills funded initiative, won an Eircom Spider Award for Digital Geography at the 2013 ceremony in Dublin’s Convention Centre on Thursday 28th November.
The Eircom Spider awards recognise and showcase excellence in internet and digital media. All categories are independently judged by a panel of digital experts.
Scoilnet Maps was one of eight shortlisted websites/apps in the Digital Geography category. Others shortlisted websites included the AA, the National Roads Authority traffic website and the Dublin Bus website.
It is an initiative of Professional Development Service for Teachers (Technology in Education) and has been developed with the assistance of the Forward Planning Unit of the Department of Education and Skills and the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government. Other organisations such as Ordnance Survey Ireland, the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, GeoDirectory, HEAnet and esri Ireland have all assisted in providing the service.
Scoilnet Maps is highly interactive, visually engaging and is aimed at bringing maps to life in the classroom. It is easy to use with a simple interface that is suitable for students of all ages. Scoilnet Maps is available at http://maps.scoilnet.ie
