13 September, 2006 - Minister Hanafin congratulates 58,000 students on Junior Certificate Results
Mary Hanafin T.D., Minister for Education and Science today congratulated students, parents and teachers following the release of the Junior Certificate Examination results for 2006. Almost 58,000 students will receive their results including over 1,300 adult students. "The Junior Certificate marks an important milestone in every student's second level education. For most, it represents their first experience of the formal examination process. The results this year are generally in keeping with previous years. It is particularly encouraging to see the increase in numbers taking Higher Level Maths and the improvement in results at lower grade level at Ordinary and Foundation Level Maths."
Highlighting the Government's commitment to Lifelong Learning Minister Hanafin said "I am particularly pleased to see the large number of adults returning to sit subjects in the Junior Certificate given the emphasis that will continue to be placed on developing second chance education provision.
Minister Hanafin said she hoped students will continue to build on their success. "Never have there been so many opportunities and choices available to students of all ages and at all levels to develop and enhance learning, build new skills and fulfil individual potential."
Congratulating the State Examinations Commission on the fourth year of operating the State Examinations, Minister Hanafin said "the Commission ensures that the State Examinations operate to the highest degree of integrity and fairness and continue to be held in high regard both here and internationally."
Minister Hanafin urged students to enjoy their celebrations with their families and friends sensibly and responsibly.
