23 June, 2006 - Minister De Valera presents Meath County Council Pride of Place for Schools Awards, 2006
Minister for Youth Affairs at the Department of Education and Science, Síle de Valera, T.D., this evening presented the prizes at the Pride of Place for Schools Awards, 2006 in Navan, Co. Meath.
Speaking at the presentation Minister de Valera said
?I am proud to say that our school curriculum has embraced the concept of environmental education in a positive and meaningful way. I have no doubt it will pay rich dividends.?
?Meath County Council are to be praised for this initiative to mobilise communities to celebrate and showcase their pride of place. Initiatives like this highlight the important link between our surroundings and our quality of life.?
?I know you will have learned a lot about gardening and hopefully have begun to develop an interest in what can be such a rewarding life-long pursuit.?
?Play and work go hand in hand every day at school and learning about sharing and togetherness is a very important part of school life.?
