15 June, 2006 - Students Awarded Leaving Certificate Applied by Minister Hanafin
'qualification is the hallmark of excellence and achievement'
Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin, T.D., today visited Coláiste Eoin in Crumlin and presented certificates to seven pupils who have completed the Leaving Certificate Applied. The Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) is a distinct two year Leaving Certificate programme aimed at preparing students for adult and working life. One of the key advantages is that it focuses on the talents of each individual student and helps students apply what they learn in the real world.
Congratulating the students Minister Hanafin said 'today we acknowledge your hard work and commitment over the last two years. You have now completed your formal education in Coláiste Eoin and have a qualification that is recognised as the hallmark of excellence and achievement in the various modules each of you have undertaken in the Leaving Certificate Applied.'
Highlighting the flexibility of the programme Minister Hanafin said 'I was particularly impressed by the range of activities you engaged in to complete your leaving certificate - from your trip to France, your visit to Belfast and your meeting with Palestinians and Israelis; you have had opportunities to meet so many interesting and different people. The choice of modules and course specialisms on offer means students have the opportunity to choose subjects that interest them most and which they can develop further.'
Welcoming the fact that the students were moving either directly into employment or into further education, Minister Hanafin said - this highlighted the benefits of participation in the Leaving Certificate Applied programme.
Thanking the Principal of the school, Seán Buckley and his staff, Minister Hanafin said 'your energy, drive and commitment has made a real difference to the lives of your students that will have lasting benefits'
Minister Hanafin wished each of the seven students continued success as they progress from their Leaving Certificates on to further education and employment opportunities.
