06 March, 2006 - Minister Hanafin launches science resource for Irish medium schools.

The Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin, T.D., today launched new Junior Certificate Science resources in Irish at Colaiste Eoin Stillorgan Road . The resources were commissioned by An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta. The kit includes a folder for teachers, a folder for pupils including assessment materials as well as a CD-ROM.

The Minister praised those responsible for the preparation of the materials, including teachers in Gaeltacht schools and Gaelscoileanna, the Inspectorate and the Science Support Service.

“These folders contain excellent material” said the Minister, “based on recommended teaching approaches, as well as suitable assessment materials. Because they are produced in folder format, it will be possible to add to or remove materials whenever necessary, for example, when syllabus changes occur and so the materials will not go out of date as is the case with textbooks.

The Minister praised Woodgrange Technologies who prepared  ( )  “Business 2000” a new resource for business studies – a  series of case stud ies  on companies, state agencies, etc.

The Irish language resource was funded by Foras na Gaeilge, Údarás na Gaeltachta and An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta.
