12 January, 2006 - De Valera launches Strategic Plan 2006 – 2008 for Clare Youth Service
The Minister for Youth Affairs, Síle de Valera TD, today launched the Clare Youth Service Strategic Plan 2006-2008.
Speaking at the launch today Minister DeValera said this plan maps out the way forward and while it is pitched at a high level it reflects current thinking and priorities for Clare Youth Service. It marks the beginning of an exciting new era in the life of Clare Youth Service and I am confident that 2006 will be an exceptional year in the evolution of youth services in Ireland generally.
Outlining a number of key developments in the area of youth services the Minister said the concept of a three year development plan for VECs is a key provision of the 2001 Youth Work Act. Much work has been done by the Youth Sector, the VECs and my Department to develop capacity in this regard.
Work on the north south youth endorsement of qualifications will begin shortly and I will attend its formal launch next week in Armagh. This will facilitate greater movement of youth workers and enable practitioners to share expertise and study in a wider variety of locations.
Congratulating Clare Youth Services on its proud tradition providing for young people for more than 35 years Minister de Valera also highlighted the importance of commending the role of volunteers those who give up their free time are to be commended and appreciated. I marvel at the energy and enthusiasm of all those involved with young people in a voluntary capacity and I am pleased that volunteers have been recognised as a priority area within your overall strategy.
Minister de Valera emphasised the importance of involving young people saying young people must have a say in the services required by them and have a role in running these services. It is always heartening to see youth led initiatives, such as the hub in Ennis. The prided and enthusiasm that comes from projects such as the hub is always special.
Minister de Valera thanked all involved in the research, co-ordination and publication of the Plan for their dedicated work and commitment and wished Clare Youth Service continued success.
