Ireland 2016 - Delivery of National Flag to Primary and Special Schools

Irish FlagNotice to Primary and Special School Principals

Update 09 February 2016 - The Defence Forces have almost completed the delivery of National Flags to primary and special schools as part of the 2016 commemorative programme. In order to ensure that no school may have been inadvertently omitted from the database of schools, any primary or special school awaiting news of its National Flag delivery should contact Sergeant Andrew Lawlor at or phone 01 6449068 immediately.

You will be contacted between September 2015 and March 2016 by your Local Authority 2016 Project Co-ordinator. She/he will liaise with the Ireland 2016 Project Office in the Department of Arts Heritage & the Gaeltacht and the Defence Forces to arrange the delivery to schools of the National Flag by the Defence Forces, as part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme.

The Department of Education and Skills is anxious to ensure that all schools are informed of the dates for their visits, and to assist the Defence Forces in their planning. We would ask you to check the information about your school, on POD (Primary Online Database) and under ‘Find a School’ on the homepage of the Department’s website, and inform the Department immediately if changes are needed to:

  • The school phone number
  • Email contact
  • Address and location i.e. if the school premises has relocated since it was last mapped on ‘Find a School’.

You can do this by clicking on ‘contact us’ under ‘Finding a School’, or via the link:

Thank you sincerely for your cooperation in this matter.
