Leave of absence may be granted to special needs assistants who are unable to attend work because of illness or injury.

Following the Public Service Sick Leave Review conducted by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER) and agreement of recommendations regarding Critical Illness Provisions (CIP) with the Public Service Associations, the Sick Leave Scheme for Special Needs Assistants as published in Circular 54/2015 is to be revised with effect from 31st March, 2018.
