Parental Leave Scheme for Teachers employed in recognised primary and post primary schools
Parental Leave is a period of statutory unpaid leave available to a teacher for the purpose of caring for his/her child.
A teacher is entitled to up to a maximum of 22 weeks Parental Leave in respect of each child up to the age of 13 years or the age of 16 years in the case of a child with a disability/long-term illness. From 1st September, 2020, a teacher is entitled to up to a maximum of 26 weeks Parental Leave.

How to Apply
A teacher must complete the Application Form at Appendix A and submit it to his/her employer at least 6 weeks prior to the planned commencement date.
