A brief or short leave of absence from school for various circumstances and situations may arise throughout the school year, for example, for reasons of bereavement, force majeure, testifying as a witness in court etc. Such absences can be paid or unpaid / substitutable or non-substitutable.

How to Apply
Teachers/special needs assistants must apply in writing directly to their current employer (i.e. Board of Management/ Manager/ Education and Training Board). Sufficient notice must be provided in accordance with the relevant circular.
It is recognised that schools will continue to require additional substitute cover in the 2021/22 school year to assist in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
