Internet Safety: Acceptable Use Policy

Devising a policy on acceptable use of the Internet is an important first step in addressing the issue of Internet safety at school level.

The template for developing an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) has been tailored for use by post-primary schools and is the latest version of a template originally developed by the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) for inclusion in its 2002 publication Be wise on the Net: Information and Advice for Schools. This publication, from which the Guidelines section below has been extracted, is a resource to support schools in being proactive in the area of Internet safety and is designed to be adaptable to the needs of individual schools.

For details on all of the requirements for an internet safety strategy for schools, of which the AUP is a key element, see the NCTE website http://www.ncte.ie
