Minister for Education and Skills' Welcome Message
I am delighted to welcome you to the website of the Department of Education and Skills.
Education affects the lives of everyone in this country. Indeed, learning is not just something that happens in the school room, it continues throughout a person's lifetime. At one point or another, we have all been students within the formal system. Once our time there is finished, we continue to learn from our life experiences and we may choose to pursue further education or training options.
This website will help you to obtain information about the range of services and supports available to learners at all levels of the education system and across the full range of key agencies within the system.
We cannot underestimate the importance of education. As well as helping people to achieve their full potential, a well-educated population can help Ireland's economic recovery. When the upturn comes in the economy, and I believe it will, we want to ensure our young people and our unemployed have the right skills to take on the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. I strongly believe in the potential of education to offer a pathway out of our current problems and I am honoured to have been given such an important portfolio.
Working together, we can develop a world class education system. We require and deserve nothing less.
If you have any comments about our services or suggestions for how we can improve, please contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org
